[English]

Background and Objective: Textbook content analysis and review play an important role in improving the quality of the teaching and learning process. To achieve this goal, there are various methods and techniques that have been invented by various scholars and researchers. These methods have been used in various studies by numerous researchers. William Rumey's method is one of these methods, which is used to analyze the content of various types of writings, especially textbooks. Using this technique, it is examined whether the book is presented in an active manner or not. The present study aims to analyze the content of the “Organic Chemistry” textbooks by Vollhard (Volumes 1, 2, and 3), 7th edition, published in 2021, using William Romey’s technique. Methods: This research is a qualitative approach and is a content analysis method. The statistical population of the study includes the “Organic Chemistry” textbooks by Vollhard, 7th edition, published in 2021. The sample size was determined using Morgan’s table, and the pages selected for analysis were chosen by artificial intelligence. Findings: The findings revealed that the text engagement coefficient in Vollhard’s Organic Chemistry textbook is 0.0095, indicating that the textbook’s text is written in a passive manner. The engagement coefficients for images and questions are 0.0118 and 7.289, respectively, both of which are outside the desirable range proposed by William Romey. Conclusion: The results show that the inactive nature of textbook content can pave the way for a review of the design and compilation of textbooks so that by using more active educational methods, the teaching-learning process can be improved and the goals of the syllabus approved by the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology can be more effectively achieved.
