Investigating the Research Process in Chemistry Education

Abstract

Undoubtedly, the research in chemistry education is an interdisciplinary field, and people who are active in this field, must have sufficient knowledge of educational sciences and research methods in behavioral sciences in addition to specialized knowledge of chemistry. In recent years, due to the increasing demand for professional chemistry teachers in schools, the field of chemistry education at the undergraduate and graduate levels has grown quantitatively, and consequently, the amount of researches and articles published in various fields of chemistry education, especially in the fields of the skills and knowledge that students need to live in today's world have grown tremendously.
Investigation of the researches done in this field in the last two decades shows that most of the researches are interventional and quasi-experimental and various topics such as teacher education, teaching methods, learning and mental beliefs, context and learning environment, educational technology, informal learning, history of science, nature of science, philosophy of science, new curricula, gender, cultural and social debates and their impact on learning have been considered by the researchers.
